Why favorite:

Earth Science and Geology - because I love learning about how things work.
Lego Guys – I enjoyed figuring out how to come up with unique ways to combine the Lego characters with Business Spot Ads.
Art History – the class pushed me to study extremely hard and expand writing ability.
Massimo Vignelli – He had a way of making form and function work making things easy for anyone to understand but still be extremely creative.
Frank Lloyd Wright – His architecture and overall lines appeal to my sense of design.
Norman Rockwell – His amazing attention to detail.
Space Race – Anything related to space I just find very interesting.
Star Wars, Star Trek, Halo - They each provided great stories, design concepts, and present very imaginative abilities of designers. Everything is a bit “outside the box” and push people toward “hope” and expose new tech.

Who are these favorite designers:

Massimo Vignelli

What has he done: -Modernist

-Designed subway system in New York City
-Very influential in bringing Helvetica to America
-Created American Airlines Logo which lasted longer than any other airline logo (in fact it just changed last year).
-Designs have a sense of timelessness and purpose

Influence on me:

I was not fully aware of all he had done till last semester; I like the sense of purpose, I realized that is what I have been striving for – balance between purpose
and creativity.

Influence on future:

I want to find a way to use design to help people; I think it is its greatest purpose.

Theory vs. Practice:

Design Theory

This is a difficult term to provide a definition….

Theoretical Project

This would relate to something that has not been practiced or done yet and you do not know whether it will actually work.

Project Routed in Design Practice:

This would relate to something that has been done and you have resources or references for the project.

Potential sources for design Research:

AIGA, Design books, video games, the things and people listed above that interest me.

Projects rooted in passion:

Yes….Vignelli – the manner in which he speaks about the New York Subway system.

My own passion:

How things work – understanding the world around me; I love to learn how things work.

Explore aspect:

Yes, I think so – when I have to do a project on anything I have to do a tone of research on the subject to make a good design and project. This relates to my passion about learning how things work.

Hunt Statement:

I hope to incorporate my knowledge and skills from illustration, animation, static design, and interaction design. It is different than what I have done before, it is more developed and encompassing – I believe it will push my own critical thinking skills beyond the current level. As far as the challenges – I am attempting to incorporate all of the above and ultimately find a way to make the design inform people – I want to fight to make complex information simple.
